Xumishan Grottoes

Xumishan Grottoes

Built between 477-499 AD on the eastern side of Mount Xumi on the route of Silk Road, the Mount Xumi Grottoes represent one of the 10 greatest grotto landscapes in China. The Buddhist temple on Mount Xumi is the largest locally, and incense and candles have continued to burn in the temple for 1,500 years. Unlike other similar sights, the Mount Xumi Grottoes were built on 8 mountains separated by streams and connected by bridges. As they were constructed in various eras, one can discover traces of their different ages in all the 350 well-preserved statues, murals and inscriptions. Its unique Danxia landscape, natural beauty and historic, cultural background make this place an elegant temple of religion and art.
